The story : The PH 3 ½-2 ½ Table was designed in 1928 and is one of many projects undertaken by PH in connection with the development of his world-famous three-shade system. The table lamp is based on original drawings by Poul Henningsen and comes with a shade holder, the first of its kind, and adjustment screws. The upper metal shade has a curled edge, a decorative and reinforcing feature that makes the shade appear thicker than the material actually is. The two lower shades are made of hand-blown opal glass. PH discovered that this combination increases the effectiveness of the light source, with the light being reflected downwards by the white underside of the upper shade. The frame is finished with a brown lacquer, which gives the lamp the same look as the burnished brass lamps of the period. This process is no longer recommended for environmental reasons.
