The story behind Jieldé | From workshop lamp to design icon
The Jieldé lamp was designed in 1950 by Jean-Louis Domecq, out of sheer necessity: he couldn't find a lamp that would properly illuminate his workshop. So he designed a fixture himself that simple, robust and fully adjustable His groundbreaking innovation? The electricity runs through the articulated arms, eliminating the need for external cables and allowing the lamp to rotate 360° without breaking a wire. Revolutionary in the 1950s, this remains unique today.
From 1951 the design was industrialized and in 1953 the company was founded Jieldé, named after the phonetic sound of his initials (JLD). Since then, Jieldé lamps have been still made by handMade in the original workshops in Saint-Priest, near Lyon, using the original tools and the same high quality standards. Each lamp is given a unique serial number, ensuring you always receive a completely authentic and original piece.
