The Jieldé lamp was designed by Jean-Louis Domecq in 1950 out of necessity. This French mechanic had been looking for a solution to properly illuminate his workshop for a long time and then started designing a luminaire himself that would be simple and robust, but would fit in all workstations. He designed a modular articulated lamp with an innovation that would make his patent an international success: the electricity is transported through the joints of the lamp, without the need for cables. The arms of a Jieldé lamp are also rotatable, without restriction around the joint. Without any wires being knotted. This was certainly revolutionary at the time.
Between 1951 and 1952, Jean-Louis Domecq industrialized the production of his lamp and in 1953 he created the iconic company, whose name is a phonetic version of his initials: JLD (Ji eL Dé). Since that date, the production of Jieldé lamps has continued until the present day. The lamps are still handmade, with the original tools, in the workshops of Saint Priest, on the outskirts of Lyon in France. Each Jieldé lamp produced is provided with a unique number.
